Camas Prairie Food Bank serves 300 to 500 people on average, per month.
Our clients are largely seniors on fixed incomes who can't afford medication and food. Some clients are working poor who have jobs but do not make enough to pay bills and feed their families for the month. We also serve clients on government assistance programs, single parent households and homeless people who are often living off grid or in their vehicles.
We are a partner agency with Idaho Food Bank and Community Action (TFAP). We serve all of Idaho County and parts of Lewis County.
There is an income guideline with Community Action but not with the Idaho Food Bank. People may qualify for both programs, but if not qualified for both, then one can still get food from the Idaho Food Bank. We also provide families with once per month food drives that are not permanent but when available, our volunteer staff supports efforts to distribute the fresh food boxes.
Contact us to learn more about how Seniors can qualify for these Senior Boxes.
We offer a variety of programs in collaboration with St. Mary's Clinics to provide free health monitoring once per year. Free Health Screenings are typically scheduled in late spring or early summer months. Anyone in our local community can stop in for testing of A1C levels for diabetics, measure blood pressure, body mass index (B.M.I.) as well as mood score for depression screening. Check our website for any upcoming health screening dates, facilitated by Community Health Workers from St. Mary's Health.
Our facility provides us much needed space for both staff and our clients.
Through many efforts and blessings of our Operations Director and Board Members, including grants (,) or (and) community donations as well as financial support from local businesses, Camas Prairie Food Bank is able to support operations of the facility and people who need help to supplement their meals.
Along with ADA parking and restroom, our food bank facility also includes a large demonstration kitchen for cooking and nutritional classes. Our facility is also utilized by local health care agencies to perform free health screenings as well.
Camas Prairie Food Banks' distribution area is a convenient and well organized section for our volunteer staff to work from and to serve the needs of our clients.
All of our food products are stored under the same roof. We also have a loading dock to facilitate unloading the monthly food truck.
